Giotto House Museum

Description:: the museum is located at the site of former Vespignano castle and contains a collection of documentary material and testimony to the life of great artist, Giotto. A permanent exhibition on Giotto's work was set up in 1987. Lengthy critical debate culminated in consensus that this is indeed where Giotto di Bondone was born (1267 - circa 1337) into a small farming family. An artistic genius, Giotto revolutionised figurative art, in the great historical pre-Renaissance revolution which influenced the whole world.

The thematic structure of the Beato Angelico Museum is thus designed to restore the bond between its fine art works, but also simple objects of devotion, and their original cultural context in order to foster appreciation of their beauty, but also provide insights into the multiplicity of social and historical elements around which they were generated and then passed down to later generations.
